The Potato: A Tale of Bravery
The potato: so versatile, yet so simple. Boil the potato, mash the potato, peel the potato and use the peels in a compost pile, and yet the potato is always potato.
Consider the inevitable destruction of life. Make you want to just give up, right? But not the potato. The potato continues imprinting its mark upon history. The potato is strong and reliable, whereas humans are weak and subject to change.
Potato is potato. Simple as that. No trick, no deception, just potato.
The potato is an inspiration. Strive to be potato; be strong and reliable and always you. All hail the potato.

Encyclopedia of My Ordinary Life
A- Answer
Most of my life I’ve been the kid who people asked for answers. Since 6th grade, however, I’ve been seeking answers, rather than giving. What is real? Is this what life was intended to be? Why are we here? Is this the Matrix? I fear I will never know....
B- Bias
I always rule in favor of things I like. Defending a TV show because my friend watches it, saying, “Oh she’s innocent, no woman would do that to her own child.” But in truth, pure objective is the way to go, don’t you think? Logic, man. It saves lives.
C- Crayons
Creativity. I saw a quote the other day, something along the lines of “When you’re young, they give you a box of crayons. When you get older, the beat away the artist in you and that creativity in older ages is the younger you, asking, ‘Can I have my crayons back, please?’” One thing that I fear today is that my creativity will be beaten out by the harshness of this world.
D- Doctor
No, I don’t want to be a doctor someday. I’m talking about this TV show. I think it’s rather funny that most everything I’ve said so far has been deep, and this one is about a show on BBC. But Doctor Who, the show, is not a simple program for entertainment. I shall start my explanation with a quote, “900 years of time and space and I’ve never met someone who wasn’t important.” Doctor Who is a show that makes you think, “I guess there is something I can do in this world. I guess there is a hope out there.” Aaaand it turned deep again. Oops.
E- Extra
Egh, and here I go, ragging on myself and contradicting what I just said. I sometimes feel like there’s no point, right? Why even bother. It’s all gonna die eventually, I’m not going to be remembered. I’m one of millions of extra people who will never do anything worthwhile. We’ll just be forgotten.
F- Fragmented
This is worse than broken. You know what, I’ll turn this around. Me relationship with my dad is messed up. I’m gonna use some probably incorrect math and say that my dad has been around for about 3/4ths of my life so far. No, he didn’t abandon me, that’s not what it is. He was in the Navy, and they made him go overseas for months at a time. To be honest, I still feel like I barely know him.
G- Gratuitous
Okay, so almost everything I’m good at is useless. It’s ridiculous. Writing? Unless I’m writing for the President, nothing I write will be remembered. Acting? That doesn’t contribute to society, unless I make a ton of money and donate it. Hm... Maybe I will do that.
H- Hydrogen
Let me just start by saying that I really hate Hydrogen. I don’t know why, I just really can’t stand the fact that it’s freakin’ everywhere. Also, it’s not like any other element. It’s just.... Hydrogen. Kinda like me.
I- Iron
Okay, another TV reference. In Supernatural, which is about two brothers who travel around killing the bad guys (which is the most epic thing ever, I must add). But it’s not just, “Oh we killed the monster, this is great,” it more shows that “Blood is family, but family don’t necessarily have to be blood.” Great quote.
J- Jam
Guess what? This is a reference to another TV show. Hehe. BBC’s Sherlock. Modern-day Sherlock Holmes. NOT THAT ELEMENTARY CRAP ON NBC. NOPE. I strongly disagree with Watson being a chick. Nope. That just makes it a whole love-thing. No, no, no, no, NO. The relationship between John Watson and Sherlock Holmes starts out with, “This is my friend John Watson-” and John interrupts, “Colleague.” IT’S SAD BECAUSE AT THE END OF SEASON TWO-- Ok, spoilers... Sorry.
K- Potassium
When I lived in Japan (dad’s job, we lived on a Military base, I did not live in a freakin’ temple.) I made friends with this really weird kid who said that Potassium helps you fly, so you should eat a banana once a day to gain the ability to fly. Don’t judge, it’s hilarious.
L- Laminated
Let’s take the word “laminated” and really study what it is. Lamination is the process of taking a piece of paper and making it shiny and protected. But in this case, I’m the paper and fiction is my laminate. I lose myself in fiction to hide from reality. I go from just another paper in a huge stack of paper to a shiny paper in a huge stack of inferior, dull papers.
M- MemeTeam
So I have this friend that I met at church. She’s really weird and she made me meet some of her friends from the school she goes to and they were awesome like her. Backstory mostly over, just wait a second. Our church is really modern and cool and they did this all nighter thing. My friend made me go and brought one of her other friends, (one that I had indeed met) and long story short, we went to Laser Quest and got our codenames and became the MemeTeam. Since we first became the MemeTeam, we’ve gained two members, made a blog, made a YouTube channel, and had at least 10 meetings. Ah, the MemeTeam.
N- Name
Let me start off by saying that I really hate my name. Danielle Faythe Poortinga. It’s awful. Danielle is such a girly name and Dani is just a weird nickname. It’s the worst thing ever. Poortinga is another awful part of my name, because nobody knows how to pronounce it. It is not with a hard “T,” nor a “D,” it is pronounced with a soft “T.” IT’S NOT THAT HARD TO FIGURE OUT.
O- Oops
I wish I could remember that quote from Iron Man 3. The “I’ve made a lot of mistakes” or something. I mostly just really like the word “oops.” It’s a good word.
P- Poortinga
Since I already got to ramble about my name, this is about my family. Ah, my silly, silly family. I might list all the Poortingas (not in order though).... Bob Poortinga(basically the patriarch), Jean Plett(they separated), Carl(my dad and the oldest of his siblings, Victoria, Jack, and me are his kids, Joy is his wife), Steve(Alexis, Steven, and Kade are his kids, Autumn is his wife, he had one divorced wife who gave him Alexis and Steven), Chad(Jarret, Sean, and Ethan are his kids, Jessica is his wife), the late Jared(Jared Jr and Matthew are his kids, Susan is his wife), Karen(September and Brannen are her kids, Manny Santiago is her husband), and Jeff(no kids, just a girlfriend, Cheyenne). And those are the Poortingas. I am the second oldest cousin, Alexis is the oldest.
Q- Qjfbgsyuheu
This keysmash is a representation of the “feels.” The feels are something you get when you love something so much you just want to curl up in a ball and cry and laugh. You can get the feels from anything, but the feels are most common from media. For example, you read a book and something happens that makes you gasp or cry or sob grossly. When one gets the feels on the internet, they usually describe these feels by typing something like this: “dnvuwguoll FEELS I CAN’T WHAT HAVE YOU DONE.”
R- Requiem
Have you heard the song “Requiem for a Dream?” If you haven’t, look it up immediately. This song, man. It doesn’t even need words. No, it is beautiful.
S- Salt
Dani no. Okay, this is another reference to Supernatural. Salt and iron both keep away ghosts and demons. To be perfectly honest, yes. I do have a small bag of salt by my bed.
T- Titan
If you had a childhood, you know what Teen Titans is. Oh, yes. Teen Titans. Best show ever. Countless hours in front of a screen, TEEN TITANS GO
U- Uranium
FOR SCIENCE! I really love screaming that before doing something. When watching a show, I make popcorn and declare that I am indeed making this for science. You know what? I’m doing this workshop FOR SCIENCE. Also I really like the element Uranium. It’s actually part of a kind of reference to Sherlock, but I will not explain it for fear of ruining the whole show for you.
V- Vendetta
V FOR VENDETTA YOU GUYS. I like the movie, it’s a good movie, but this is more a reference to The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. If I say anything else about TFiOS, I will indeed be struck by feels.
W- Wrong!
Dani no. Yet another Sherlock reference. Okay, so this appeared in the first episode. DI Lestrade was in a fancy interview, and when he said something, everyone in the room would receive a text with just “Wrong!” It was great.
X- Xenolinguistics
I really just love JJ Abrams’ Star Trek. Especially Pavel Chekov. wbfquwgh duisthv78 i cant HE JUST I CANT
Y- Yellow Light
Of Monsters and Men is a great band. It is adorable and their music is very cheerful and I feel way too serious right now. Look up OMaM, immediately.
Z- ZI Can’t Think of Anything
I guess I could finish with “And in conclusion, this is my life,” but that is boring.
I shall finish with color. I have never been more serious in my life. This is bland seriousness. Boom, guess what? Serious.
.
