The "morning-plus-afternoon" option is intended to help high school and college-bound students who want to boost their academic writing skills. HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT OPTION: This 45-hour "morning-plus-afternoon" course addresses California standards for students who need to make up a failing grade in English 1 or English 2. The content of the course changes from year to year, but it always includes a variety of nonfiction assignments, including argument writing, MLA formatting, and academic research papers, as required to meet California's CCSS standards. The course is taught by four exemplary teachers who are consultants for Great Valley Writing Project at CSU Stanislaus: Elyce Silva, Jenna Valponi, Krista Beltran, and Kathy Skochko. All hold valid California teaching credentials. At least eight other credentialed teachers assist in this two-week program, serving as personal writing mentors and publishing consultants. Ripon High students who want to improve an English grade must purchase a special "RHS Credit" ticket. Because of extra costs involved in staffing and grading student work in this program, no scholarships are available, but special discounts are offered for RHS students. Students should pick up information and instructions from the RHS counselor's office. PLEASE NOTE: The Ripon School Board approved this course, but other districts may not accept the credits. Pre-approval of your high school counselor is required! |
