In these exciting demonstration workshops, teachers explore instructional practices that help students face the new demands of the Common Core standards. Participants read, discuss, and observe expert teachers working with real students in a full-sized classroom laboratory. Ripon Lab for 4th-12th Teachers – Afternoon Sessions, June 6-20
GVWP Demo Lab: Write Like This: Inquire, Inform, Explain, Explore! -- Register Online!
IMPORTANT NOTE: This 1-unit course is an afternoon extension of other Demonstration Labs at Ripon; participants must enroll in one of the morning Demo Lab programs at Ripon in order to earn units for this extended-day course. Click to view other DemoLab courses.
COURSE CONTENT: During these afternoon sessions, course instructors will demonstrate how to help students bridge the gap between inquiry, research, informative writing, formal research papers, and digital publishing. Participating teachers will observe, participate, and discuss as they continue their collaborative exploration of instructional practices that work with real students in real classroom environments.
ABOUT THE TEXT: Teachers will delve deeper into Kelly Gallagher’s Write Like This: Teaching Real-World Writing Through Modeling and Mentor Texts. The instructors will also provide supplementary activities, digital resources, and pedagogical articles to enlighten and inspire meaningful, well-informed discussions.
NOTE FOR TEACHERS WITH CHILDREN: Participating teachers who have adolescent children attending the morning workshops may enroll them in the afternoon workshop sessions free of charge. (Note: These afternoon workshop classroom addresses 9th-12th grade CCSS and college readiness. No activities are available for preteens or young children.)
