GVWP Tech Lab: Writing & Digital Communication in the Instagram Age (K-12)
This 15-hour, one-unit course starts June 3rd-4th with “Technology Boot Camp” sessions at Ripon High School. In these half-day sessions, you will explore popular communication tools (including Google Drive, Weebly, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and others) that can help you connect your classroom with parents and the outside world. You will learn new ways to use your smartphone (or iPad/Android tablet) for instructional enrichment and on-the-fly publishing. You will read and discuss information about possible benefits, pitfalls, and legal issues (including privacy, cyberbullying, and liability concerns).
Up to five of the fifteen course hours may be spent working toward a personal technology goal, so you will be asked to select a focused, attainable goal to study and implement during three fieldwork dates. With multiple technology leaders available for advice, much of the fieldwork can be individualized to help you address personal goals. (Fieldwork dates will be selected June 4th; please bring your calendar to boot camp!) Computers are provided, but many skills are best learned on your own computer, so if you have a laptop, tablet, or notebook computer, you should bring it. COURSE SCHEDULE: Flexible dates! On June 4th, you will choose specific dates and locations to complete your assigned fieldwork, plus one 30-minute session for your final presentation.
